I have to confess that this was my first time camping on the beach, and even I was a little stressed it was an amazing experience.
The ride from Panama City by car is about a 2 hours drive from the city to the port with no traffic. Recommended a 4×4 van because there are highs hills and strong downs. You should contact a boat driver on advance so you arrive and have a boat waiting for you. The prices of the camping and the round trip on the boats oscillate from $50-60. When you go by car you have to pay the taxes of the place that are like 5 $ dollars for Panamanian locals and about 10 $ for foreigners plus the car tax that are like 3 $.
The Gunas, the native people, who are the ones that manage the whole islands, will help you to pack everything in the boats and you can even ask them for help with the setting of the camp, for some tip.
There are different islands that are conditioned for camping like: Aguja, Perro Grande, Perro Chico, Chicheme, among others. This time we chose Perro Chico, that is not as close from port as Aguja but not as far as Chicheme, is like a 20min boat ride. They have bathrooms and showers, but with a very precarious condition. The last boat goes out at 4:00pm, so be sure to be there not later than that. Same hour for returning from the islands.
Once you arrived in the island, the Gunas will assign you your camping territory and if you ask, they can even help you to set up the tents. If you go on Panamenian summer, there are no mosquitoes because of the wind. So the rest is to have fun, enjoy the nature and relax. At night you can make your wood fire and enjoy the stars in the amazing sky. During the day don’t forget to drink some natural coconut water and try the lobster that the Gunas catch.

– Deodorant, shampoo and styling cream (girls above all, do not forget the protector for you hair from the rays of the sun)

– Inflator for the mattress and floatables
Food ideas:
- Marshmallows
- Cold tuna pasta
- Sausages for the bbq
- Sandwiches for breakfast
- Fruits like bananas
- Snacks (cookies, lays, etc).
Tuna Pasta Recipe:
- Stir fry one onion, garlic, tomatoes, carrot, peas, corn and apio with olive oil
- Add the tune cans
- Add some salt, pepper, wine and oregano
- One the mix is cooked and juicy (don’t let it dry too much) add the mix to the pasta
- The recommended pasta is farfalle for a better taste
- Add the tuna sauce to the pasta in little portions so you can move it the right way
- You can add some olive oil and mayoinesse

Debo confesar que esta era la primera vez que iba a acampar en la playa, y aunque estaba un poco estresada, fue una experiencia increíble.
El viaje desde la ciudad de Panamá en carro se realiza en aproximadamente 2 horas, desde la ciudad hasta el puerto sin tráfico. Se recomienda una camioneta 4×4 porque hay colinas altas y fuertes bajadas. Deben ponerse en contacto con un conductor de bote con anticipación para que llegue y tenga su bote esperándolo. Los precios del campamento y el viaje ida y vuelta en los barcos oscilan entre los $ 50-60. Cuando vas subiendo en carro debes pagar los impuestos del lugar que son como 5$ dólares para locales panameños y unos 10$ para extranjeros más el impuesto del carro que son como 3$.
Los Gunas, los nativos del lugar, que son los que manejan las islas enteras, te ayudarán a empacar todo en el barco e incluso puedes pedirles ayuda con el montaje del campamento.
Existen diferentes islas acondicionadas para acampar como: Aguja, Perro Grande, Perro Chico, Chicheme, entre otras. Esta vez elegimos Perro Chico, que no está tan cerca del puerto como Aguja, pero tampoco tan lejos como Chicheme, está como a 20 minutos del puerto. Tiene baños y duchas, pero con una condición muy precaria y sale muy poquita agua dulce. El último bote sale a las 4:00 p.m., así que asegúrese de estar allí no más tarde de eso. La misma hora para regresar de las islas.
Una vez que llegaste a la isla, los Gunas te darán tu parte para acampar, y si lo pides, incluso pueden ayudarte a instalar las carpas. Si vas en el verano panameño, no hay mosquitos debido al viento, igual asegúrate de ponerte repelente. De resto queda divertirse, disfrutar de la naturaleza y relajarse. Por la noche, puedes encender tu fogata y disfrutar de las estrellas que se ven hermosas con el cielo despejado y todo oscuro. Durante el día, no te olvides de tomar agua de coco natural y probar la langosta que pescan los Gunas.

- Pasta de dientes y cepillo de dientes
- Desodorante, champú y crema para el pelo (chicas sobretodo, no olviden del protector para los rayos del sol)
- Cepillo
- Inflador para el colchón y los flotadores
Ideas de comida:
- Malvaviscos
- Pasta fría de atún
- Salchichas para la barbacoa
- Sandwiches para el desayuno
- Frutas como banana
- Aperitivos (galletas, lays, etc.).
Receta de pasta de atún:
- Sofríe una cebolla, ajo, tomate, zanahoria, guisantes, maíz y apio con aceite de oliva
- Agregua las latas de atún
- Agregua un poco de sal, pimienta, vino y orégano
- Una vez la mezcla esté cocinada y jugosa (no la deje secar demasiado) agregua la mezcla a la pasta
- La pasta recomendada es “farfalle” para un mejor sabor
- Agregua la salsa de atún a la pasta en pequeñas porciones para que puedas moverla de la manera correcta
- Puedes agregar un poco de aceite de oliva y mayonesa
……y Voilà!
